FTA Shutter Problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Konica 35mm SLRs : One Thread

I have two Konica FTA bodies that I bought back in the early 70's. They have served me well over the years, however they have both developed an annoying problem. If I leave them sit unused for any length of time, (even one day), the next time that I try to use them the shutter will not release until I shake, rattle, and roll them for a time. After which they will work perfectly. I am leaving the shutter UN-Cocked when this happens, I don't cocked them because I felt that doing so would weaken the springs. I would like to know if this is a simple problem or am I looking at a big expense?

Thanks in advance, Jim.

Additional Comment

As a side note, if I leave the shutter cocked the problem does happen. Is it OK to store these cameras with the shutter cocked?

Thanks Jim

Typo

Sorry, I was typing too fast.

Read the second messages as "If I leave the shutter cocked the problem doesn't happen."

Thanks Jim C.
