New nonGreenspan forum?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Rollover/Back-Up Forum : One Thread

Why should this server stay up given the problems of the last few days? If the equipment can't take the archiving software hits, and even a few people use them out of ignorance or malicious intent, the server will go back down again as Phil has explained.

I have no hard feelings to Phil since he can not help the equipment and does not share our interests.

I am simply stating that if we don't want to be doing this over the critical rollover week, we should create a consensus of regulars to meet at a new forum.

Lisa has created a forum and is spreading the url through email and making it more secure. Anyone who wants to move over to the new forum she is setting up, email me and I will point you to her, but only if I recognize you. We are attempting to leave the hackers and disrupters behind us.

If I can't help you I am sure that you can get in touch with a regular who knows you or speak directly to Lisa about it. I will at least give you her email address so you can appeal to her to get the new url.

I would hope that enough people move over there so that we can settle in to our new home before 4 am tomorrow starts the rollover.

Otherwise, we will be subject to the next shut down.

I realize that this forum is familiar and that it will be hard for everyone to get the message this way, but with a little effort, the word can be passed quickly.

The new forum is up and already several people are using it.

Any opinions on this plan?

Lora,

I think that Doomersucks has already gotten to it... :-(

Deb,

Doomers suck got in before the mirror site was completed with password protection. He will not be able to get in once the security interface is completed, which should be within a few hours. There is _nothing_ in place to keep the trolls out of _this_ forum. It will only get worse.

At least have the courtesy to get his name right, since you're playing in Mr Greenspun's yard.

I'm stoked to be back. I am very happy:) I'm updating my e-mail address now for Lisa then just in case (got a new account for Ron's ONEList), but it sounds like Phillip has a crew who have been kicking ass for the past 24 plus hours for us, so I am confident:)

Did I tell you I am very happy?heh.

Sounds good to me. I just sent you an email so I can also go to the new site. Thanks.
