Possible Missile launch

Just got this from another Y2K watch List. I have not confirmed the report. Anyone tuned to ABC?

On ABC, a few minutes ago (approx. 3:30 CST) it showed an interview with a member of the US military at Colorado Springs. He said they had detected 3 missile launches, but with a flight distance of less than 500 kilometers. He refused to say where the launches were. The ABC national security correspondent seemed to feel the launches were in Chechnya.

I heard this too on my car radio. I believe it was ABC News. They said that 3 Skud missiles had been launched toward Chechnya, but that this was unrelated to Y2K. I'd like to know more also.

The Scud missiles were fired by Russian forces towards sites in Chechnya. They were jointly monitored by U.S. and Russian military personnel at a Watch Center in Colorado. Missile flights of less than 500 km are not prohibited by treaty. U.S. military officials were reportedly advised of the launches and their destinations.

Found an answer at http://www.abcnews.go.com/ABC2000/abc2000world/nukes991230.html.

Part of the article follows: "A Russian commander today caused some momentary concern when he said three missiles had been launched, but it was quickly revealed that they were smaller, short-range weapons, probably Scuds, being used in the Russian republic of Chechnya---where Russian troops are fighting rebels, and where U.S. monitors are not offering their help."

Happy New Year Year to Chechnya from your friends in the former Soviet Union!

May the spirit of freshness and tranquility that could be the Y2K change come to the deluded Russian military who are committing genocide in Chechnya. Let peace and goodwill into your hearts this New Year and put the Scud missiles away FOREVER! Haleluah.

May I suggest that we refrain from using this forum for editorial comments. We still have work to do tonight.

I, too, heard on ABC that the missiles were possibly SCUDS fired on Chechnya. Thanks, all of you, for contributing to this fine forum.
