What Happened to DC?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Been watching the ABC coverage.. great so far... but wasn't Clinton supposed to make a speech, Spielberg movie, specials in D.C. etc., big show...

I saw about 30 seconds of fire works at the Washington monument, then they shifted back to NY and never went back...

Did I go pee at the wrong time? Anyone in DC to give us a status?

Thanks...

I watched the DC gig. It pretty much sucked. Spielberg should be embarrassed. It was boring as hell.

I was wondering too, DC went out on NPR in Minnesota.--Susan

LOL, they were pleading with folks to show up; they seemed a bit bummed by the turn-out, compared to other countries. I thought it looked full enough. The monument didn't photograph well, and the fireworks on it ended up looking mundane, after Paris and Sydney and Cairo. The "magical event in the sky"? Was that the 1980's metal- head concert green laser beams? The only thing of interest to the media that I found was the folks wading in the pool.

We can't stand to listen to Clinton talk. Turned the channel & didn't go back.

Do you blame tho Hokie? After al the terrorist threats...after all the buildup...Did they really thing that people would want to be on the proverbial "Ground Zero" if anything did happen? Sounds like it was a bust...thank the god(s)!!!Happy New Year My Friend...

PS My .m il bros send their regards as well...

Yes. It was a shame. They said it would be the best. It wasn't. Merry old England put us to shame. Then you had the idiots wading in the pool. Should have shot them. Probably do the gene pool an advantage. Oh well,

he did make a speech right before the ball dropped. i thought i would puke. god forgive me for being so negative on my leader but he is just so darned evil. he had his usual smug narcissistic demeanor and focused on 1) tolerance/intolerance/hatred and HIS NEXT JOB AS WORLD DOMINATOR, 2) GLOBALISM. hill spoke too. barf. she is a candidate.

You peed at the wrong time. Clinton gave a speech before the fireworks, then at the end of the fireworks Boris Yeltsin came riding in straddling a Topol-M missile, and blew the entire fiasco to kingdom come.

Yeeeaaay, we're finally free from governmnet control! (sorry about the innocent bystanders, but they should have known better than to hang around that town)

live in Montgomery County which borders NW of DC. local ABC showed Clintons speech; local FOX went back and forth between DC and NY. FOX stopped showing anything about DC at midnight; ABC showed the Mall for about 1-2 minutes....there were no electric lights, other than 2 spotlights, in the picture. i don't know if they planned to turn the lights around the Wash. monument off or not; the reported stopped talking, listened to his head-set, looked kind of confused, then looked back at the camera (looking nervous & confused), reported happy-face. they cut away from him after about 10 seconds to go to another report on Connecticut Ave. the camera shot showed her and a few people behind her clearly. anything more than about 6 feet behind her was too blury to make out. she only spoke for about 30 seconds, then ABC went to NY-coverage; neither station came back to DC for at least 10 minutes. after that, i don't know, i went to bed.

i would be REAL surprised if nothing happened down there.

Like everything else the Clintons are involved with... Nothing of substance...What can one expect from the Most Dysfunctional 1st family. I guess the old saying goes...Shit Floats to the Top

I don't know what you all are talking about. Your perceptions are kind of odd. I live up the street from Al Gore and my husband works for the Post and from what I saw the celebration on the Mall was pretty big. Nothing bad, though. Clinton gave a speech, big deal. Fireworks were substantial. I think so many people want things in Washington to be bad. Life here is lovely, and that's normal for "way inside the Beltway." :) Sometimes when I read these message boards (and I never have until today), I understand why they call so much of America "Fly Over County."

So in other words, I didn't miss anything :)
