Any Predictions on the DOW

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I know that if things go well early Monday, I will be back in this crazed market Tuesday.

DOW will cross 12,000 by Friday's close.

The sky's the limit now for the DOW!!!

No-- far beyond the sky, our solar system, the Milky Way and unto the ends of the cosmos. And that's just January.

profit taking then off again.

I know one thing for sure. I don't know. Took a while just to figure out that much. :)

" "Oh!" one may say, "That will be taken care of in testing. "Yeah, right. Do we really have the time and infrastructure to test all of our systems, all at the same time, to make sure we have not violated any hidden dependencies between them by our essentially blind modification of many of our code modules?

Are we going to hang our hat on that? Some organizations may have time and infrastructure for one or two test runs (like Wall Street's famous $100 million Street-wide test that did not go all the way back through all the firms' backroom systems), but everyone knows that is not going to be nearly enough.""

after putting everyone to sleep this weekend----what if.......?

I think there will be substantial profit taking on the DOW stocks this week, and they will continue to decay as people move to the NASDAQ tech stocks. IBM isn't enough to carry the DOW along by itself, so unless they start adding more technology into the DOW 30, I think many will give up any illusions of long term security and give into the temptation to "get rich quick." It's clear that this is already happening, and it will get much worse in the future, IMO.

I would guess stocks will go up. Stock prices reflect moods more than they do value/profit-potential. Mood looks very good now, mine sure has been high! Not that I'm getting into the market. I've lost money my whole life by prefering cash, and I probably always will lose income that way.

I think Monday, Tuesday and maybe Wednesday will be up up up. Market will wait for Friday's economic data to move forward after that. I sold most of my S&P 500 puts Friday and covered my puts with short term calls late on Friday so won't get knocked around no matter which way it goes. Depending on how the S&P futures look before the open Monday, I will be buying lots of calls on Russell 2000 index. Expect rotation to the small caps. Hopefully the surge will not come at the open so I can get in.

Still think Y2K may have impact, but not early next week.
