Why is North removing roughly half of his categories and more than half of his links in the surviving categories?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Please look at http://www.garynorth.com/ and ask yourself, "What happened to the Introduction, Taxation, Military, Martial_Law, Welfare_Payments, Telecommunications, Litigation, and Health_Care categories?"

Also consider that North appears to have taken down his "Y2K weatherman says I'm wrong, but I'm not because the problems start in a month or two." page.

What is going on? (Rhetorical question. It's obvious what is going on. But I won't say it because I don't want to be accused of being a troll. Please decide for yourself; I'm just here to point you in the right direction.)

My bad. I was wrong.

As of now he's down to FIVE categories.

This means that either he's being hacked, or he wants us to "focus" on government, banking, compliance, too late, and domino effect.

Just checked.....he's down to FOUR categories now........

If you go to mirror site at www.prorege.com, you will find everything still intact. It is possible it is being hacked.

He's being hacked, most likely by polly hacker trolls who are in a very deep denial.

-- (brett@miklos.org), January 01, 2000.

Brett: No. That's not the case. He started by removing all the incriminating links in Introduction; then he started removing incriminating CATEGORIES, wholesale; also a hacker could remove categories MUCH, MUCH quicker. The DATABASE is being updated, slowly and methodically.

This was a hoax from the start. Sorry.

Polly hacker trolls? Deep denial? Come on Brett, the pollies have been right on so far and Gary is looking more of a fool than ever. Y2K probably will cause some noticeable problems, but it is clear now that it isn't the collapse Gary's always wanted/predicted/made a buck off of.

He's a hack. 100 years ago he'd have been selling snake oil to illiterates.

Face the fact the reality is looking rosey at the moment, even if there are Y2K hurdles left to clear.

Yeah, like Phil Greenspun said, he could have wiped out the entire TB2K archive with the click of a mouse button, or a single command.

Any hacker that was interested in shutting down Gary's page could have done the whole deed in a few minutes.

Nope, Gary is once again doing a little ad-lib to save some of his quickly decaying reputation.

It's obvious that you are all in denial. How sad. Gary is a hero and saved millions of lives and all you polly trolls want to do is spread lies about him. Pathetic.

-- (brett@miklos.org), January 01, 2000.

I am no troll. I dont know what is going on with GN's website, but I have always disliked him and do not consider him to be an important voice in y2k awareness and remediation.

He has always taken the y2k cannot be fixed attitude and has always said we are headed to something just short of Armageddon.

People who treat him like a savior or a light in the darkness are misguided.

I think Brett is being humorous.

"Gary is a hero. Has saved millions of lives." Great satire. HaHaHAHAHAHAHAH HEEHEHEH. They guy's a nut and probably wouldn't save a starving dog, even if he could.

It's his website and he is paying the cost of maintaining it. He can revise it any way he wants to. I never agreed with his extreme views on Y2K, but he has always had some very useful information on his website. If some of the information is no longer relevant, there is no point in keeping it.

Most of his information came from newspaper and magazine reports. He didn't write many of the articles himself.

What are you talking about?

Everything is still there. The only things not there that I noticed are the things he posted from the 29th through this morning.

I thought it odd those were gone, and considered it a glitch in the system somewhere.

Everything else is still there.

Now his categories are back but the most recent articles are Dated December 13th........obviously something funny going on.......

-- Craig (craig@ccinet.ab.ca), January 01, 2000.

North is "...removing incriminating..." -- LOL!!! Right, the same dude who only LAST WEEK was begging and encouraging people with CD writers to make a complete copy of his ENTIRE SITE AND ALL THE MATERIAL THAT HE LINKED TO so that it would be preserved in the event of Y2K problems.

I have no idea what is going on with his web site and all the missing stuff (which is STILL AVAILABLE on mirror sites, if any of you moronic pollies want to collect the "evidence" before it, too, is deviously destroyed). Obviously, nobody else here does either.

Gawd, I don't know which is sillier: Pollies ranting about Gary North, or doomers ranting about chemtrails.

Let's all look at this a moment....

Gary North started his web site over two years ago...in a time when explosive growth was being made over the internet, and lots of fortunes, he did not advertise his site. Maybe having his site allowed him to pick up some extra subcribers to his newsletter...but can you blame him for advertising a little?

Gary offers all of his written materials (books) over the web for free.

Gary posted at least ten links per day on all manner of y2k related information...certainly a lot of work.

Nobody was forced to visit his site.

Gary obviously considered that either computer collapse or hacker work or arrest by FBI might endanger the data on his site, so he encouraged people to copy his site, and pointed out software tools to do it.

WHAT DOES HE NOW HAVE TO GAIN BY REDUCING THE MATERIAL ON HIS SITE?
