RITE-AID loses satelite link

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was in Rite-Aid yesterday, and there were signs when you came in written in bad handwriting. They said," due to computer problems we cannot accept credit cards or atm and must do price checks on all your purchases because our scanner is not working" I stepped back a second and re-read it. Yep that's what it said. I came home to our small town, and we have a Rite-Aid so I decided to go and see if it was a "network" or local problem. They had the same problems. I asked the manager about it and he said "we lost our satelite link"

My wife and I were out at a major mall in NJ yesterday. All the stores seemed to be accepting credit cards just fine.

You were shopping at a mall where all the stores were Rite Aid stores?

Wow!

Everything I've attempted in the past couple of days has been 100% successful. Including atm withdrawal, my wife getting a prescription filled, two meals out (paid by credit card) and a couple of purchases by my wife. Not to mention using tons of electricity and making a bunch of calls.

Not that I'm naive to think there's no such thing as a y2k bug. I am convinced that the little issues that arise won't amount to much before they're FIXED, and will end up having damn near ZERO impact on my life.

If this Rite-Aid thing is true, 1st of all, Big Deal, and 2nd of all, I'm sure the folks who maintain the system throughout the year will fix it.

Yeah Ron,

And then we went to the Lord & Taylors mall, and then to the Borders mall, and then to the VS mall, and ....

Better go back to watching NASDAQ.

ROTFLMAO

cash 'n cards,

You actually go to the Garden State Plaza?? We don't go near that place anymore. Too huge, too little parking, too much hassle. Paramus Park is much nicer.
