yellow cast to Oriental VC papers

I recently started using the Oriental VC papers (after being a devotee of the Oriental graded papers) and I find that after fixing (yes, the fixer is fresh) and washing briefly, when I put the test print on the viewing board, it will get a definite yellow cast to it. I find that after the prints have soaked in water, it will go away. But, it makes for a difficult time analyzing test prints. Any suggestions?

I use Forte FB paper and my test prints also have a yellow cast if not soaked in water. I just ignore the yellow and go ahead and judge the exposure (shadow detail, contrast, highlights, etc.) When I make my final print and wash they look great.

Hi Doug, I have also noticed this with oriental vc. It does take getting used to judging the print. This is a normal conditon for this paper as I have read about it in Bruce Barnbaum's book. (The Art of Photography). I would also say that I like Ilford MG IV just as well as the Oriental paper. Bill Bartels
