Select "view source"... scroll down... it's not part of any calculation, it's a header. Someone just had a brain fart and entered it wrong.

Breaking news for CNN:

The new millennium begins January 1, 2001. The year 2000 is the millennial year, NOT the beginning of the new millenium.

Thank you for letting me vent. Just a pet peeve I have.

-- Simpleminded (nope@wont.never), January 05, 2000.

I never had a pet peeve. Do they eat much? Are they hard to care for? Where did you get it, at a local pet shop or a breeder?

-- Jimbo (Animal@lover.com), January 05, 2000.

No, much like cats, pet peeves adopt you, as opposed to you adopting them. They will feed on mere scraps of subject material which pertains to them. They virtually care for themselves, and are almost impossible to get rid of (no need for that expensive yard fence or cage!). The last one I had (named "Knucklecracking") stayed with me until I beat the feeder into submission.

Don't they hang out with Snipes?

Simplemided,

I wonder if you and a couple of others are EVER going to get unstuck with this issue. 2000, 2001, who cares??? There have been missing years in the calendar anyway: 1/1/2001 won't even make 2000 years. Got it??? How dumb can mankind be to get so stuck on such an utterly trivial issue?

Dear Bored,

You do realize you're on a forum that deals with subjects such as Y2K, chemtrails and giant killer asteroids, right?

You would begrudge me my simple pet peeve in the midst of all this?

-- Simpleminded (nope@wont.never), January 05, 2000.

The new millennium begins January 1, 2001. The year 2000 is the millennial year, NOT the beginning of the new millenium.

Actually 01/01/2000 is just not the beginning of the third millenium! The millenium of 01/01/2000-12/31/2999 is more important to most people, 72% by historical poll. The problem you are immediately faced with by starting in 2001 is this: Which decade contains the year 2000? If 2000-2009 then it belongs to two different centuries and millenia. Are you prepared to restate the decade of the 1990's as the 1991-2000's? That's the logical subdivision if you want to be consistent.
