I am looking for plans on how to build a chicken incubater with a heater and a thermasat, so that it regulates its own temp.

My son built an inexpensive incubator from the book "The Family Poultry Flock" by Lee Schwanz. It worked pretty well, but the main problem we had was regulation of humidity. I don't think you can make a good incubator unless you can install a humidifier in it. Temp is easy to regulate using a light bulb. mary

Thanks I'll try to find the book .My problem is we heat with wood /coal so the house isnt always at the same temp. I tried a styrofoam incubater last year and did not have good results .

Patty buy a new thermometer. Styrafoam incubators work great but you have to use a good thermometer. My house temp fluctuates a lot and even in a draft I still get great hatches.

I agree with Don. A styrofoam incubator at the proper temperature should do fine. When incubating, our temps range from 50 at night to high 60's during day. Instructions call for higher temps, but this has worked for us. If this doesn't work, try setting the eggs later in the year, when temps are 60 or so inside. Or try putting the incubator in a small area with an electric heater that will keep ambient temps above 60. I do this in a small (tiny) bedroom for starting my seeds in spring. Works very well!

i am 14 and i bought a hova bator incubator last year it is styrofoam it works great i am building me a new one that is lager and for the humidity just get a tv dinner tray and fill it about 1/4 full then 3 days before the hatch fill it about 1/2 it worked for me bye
