b&w prints: Epson Stylus Photo 750 vs. HP Deskjet 970Cxi

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am an old hand at LEICA-M photography and thus mainly interested in black and white work. Using an HP PhotoSmart S20 Scanner and a HP 1100A Laser Jet I get results comparable to good newspaper pictures as far as resolution is concerned, but with a much broader tonal width.

Does anybody know which of the two printers mentioned above would yield better results for the specific purpose? Any further suggestions?

Thanks a lot for giving me information and advice

I would go with the stylus photo 750. I may be biased towards epson, but if you are looking strictly at black and white printing, you may want to check out the quadtone inks at www.missupply.com as well as checking out http://come.to/digitaldarkroom for more information re black and white printing

I have an Epson Photo Ex printer. Monochrome prints come out really nice, but I do have doubts about the stability of the ink. Some of my prints have turned a really yucky green, purplish colour! And I do use the original Epson inks.

I used to have an Epson 1270. The colour pictures are great but it cannot handle bw prints well.
