The National Heritage Director fears that several public archives in Norway may have been lost.
State and municipal registers and archives which are no longer in active use, but which contain important historical material, could be lost, according to Aftenposten.
Little attention was paid to such archives in connection with the transition to 2000.
The Heritage Director asked for reports from all departments, directorates and governors explaining how they secured such information, but has received few answers.
