Greenspan in bed with OPEC

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Could our illustrious FED be in cahoots with OPEC in a scheme to slow the economy? Irrational exuberance reeled in with a mere oil price hike instead of interest hike after interest hike after interest hike.... And a slowing but still a healthy demand for oil. Afterall a steep end to our exuberance is no good for the oil producers of the world. Jockeying with your mind, JockeyBoy

I don't think so. The feds haven't really "raised" interest rates, the market did.

Also, raising gas prices is more inflationary.

Interesting angle. It's not Greenspan's job to comment on the stock market, let alone influence it. It's not his job to stabilize the American economy either. His job is to turn a profit for the elite investers that own the federal reserve. emember this is a private bank backed by foreign investers, not a branch of the US.gov.

So my question to you Jockey Boy would be: How would the increased price in oil profit the elite investers Greenspan works for?

If your answer is "it wouldn't" then my hunch would be Greenspan spits in OPEC's face. I'm only armchair quarterbacking though.

Hokie-- As a wealthy pal of Al's would you rather make 10% instead of less? And yes increased gas price is inflatioary therefore slowing exuberance and perhaps a rate hike will be unnecessary-eh?

---or MAYBE al and the oil boys were REALLY polly in estimating exactly what y2k was going to do to their "flow". Maybe they are just reacting in semi shock right now, and are still wobbly/clueless? Their handlers, too. Even well thought out long range plans can have a monkey wrench- bug-thrown in them. Whatever else is going on is just inertia, catching up with ever increasing friction.

just a maybe

Yah,

Really looks like it's slowing down the party over at Nasdq?

If Greenspin doesn't act and act soon he'll be responsible for a much worse catastrophe than Y2K could have been.

Hey Al, get with it. It's just like a school yard bully. If you don't hit'em and let 'em know you mean business, they keep right on walking on you. Only in Al's case he invites them to do it.
