team request for the "Industry adoption" topic

greenspun.com : LUSENET : UVa CS 655 Discussion : One Thread

For the project of the Programming Languages course, I'm considering working on the topic "Industry adoption". I'm looking for one or two teammates (David Evans thinks it would be a good 2-person project)

As a reminder, this project idea aims at illustrating the fact that it takes about 20 years for a good idea from the programming language research community to become widely adopted in the industry, then devising a theory for why it takes so long. Finally a prospective part could give some similar good ideas still to be adopted by the industry.

I think this topic can be very interesting because if one considers working in the industry one day, it would be good to have a better understanding of the industry machinery in general and especially here what I would call "technological lookout".
