CHEMTRAILS: Where are the Enviros on this???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Seems I remember a State a few years back that had a Moonbeam as a Governor. And it came to pass that insects with a Mediterranian heritage were, it was alleged, threatening the Navel (love those navels!) Orange crop or some such thing.

Moonbeam's proposed solution? Why nothing short of a domestic Operation Ranch Hand spraying not the Agent Orange, but the EVIL Malathion!

Enviros were outraged, as were Vietnam Vets...some threatened to use Violence if the program started...the Pot was kept boiling for months...

Yet now, with Asthmatic Children affected (bless their little inhalers!) as well as the elderly, and to hear at least one observer tell it, the Chemicals make the mosquitos and even little birds "go away" , ths silence of the Enviros is Deafining, as is that of the Loyal Opposition Parties of BOTH the United States and Canada.

In short, what the heck is going on?!?!?

Losing, this is such an AMAZING coincidence -- did you know your IP number is the same as that of Village Y2K Idiot from the Bonkers forum?

-- Sysop (with@pooper.scooper), January 22, 2000.

It was a known fact that malathion was a toxic chemical, but exactly what chemtrails are is still unknown. The gubmint just keeps saying that they are normal jet contrails, and there is no way environmentalists will succeed in getting the entire airline industry to quit flying.

What is known is that the cooling and heating effects caused by these low-lying cloud layers is definitely screwing with the balance within the atmosphere. This can be proven within closed laboratory models, but it is impossible to prove an effect within an open system as dynamic as the Earth's biosphere. They will just say these types of anamolies are being caused by "El-Nino", or volcanic eruptions. Yet they do not offer any explanation for why the El-Nino phenomenon are increasing in frequency and intensity. Duh.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), January 22, 2000.

Okay.....let's shut down the airline industry....just to make Hawk happy!!

You should put a few more 'Duh's in your posts Hawk.....it would be fitting.

I admit to seeing contrails recently, but are they chemtrails? Of what? How would I know?

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), January 22, 2000.

Since not a single one has been actually analyyzed, the thing that makes a contrail a chemtrail is calling it one.

Hey!! There goes another one!!

You're welcome.

I remember the spraying of malathion in this area when I was a child, to combat the med-fly.

My gawd, is that what is wrong with me?! (just kidding...sorta)

-- cin (cinlooo@aol.com), January 22, 2000.

Indeed, I am not a firm believer in "chemtrails"...I would like to see some verifiable evidence that gov't is "spraying" the population and more, I would like to see a rationalization of *WHY* they would do this!

That being said: I did read a report, and I do not have a source, several months ago, that one analysis turned up "diethylene bromide" in the residue being sprayed.

I have no idea what this might be used for in "spraying" the populace...ideas anyone?

I remain skeptical.

What is with the chemtrail issue. Explain please what the concerns are.

What I am getting from the information so far is that you believe your government is intentionally pouring chemicals over you.

Is this what you mean or am I reading what you are saying incorrectly?

Mara, easy, do they look like this? :

-- Hokie (Hokie_@hotmail.com), January 22, 2000.

For Birdlady:

methyl bromide

Methyl bromide is produced by adding sulfuric acid to a mixture of sodium bromide and methyl alcohol. It is used primarily as a space, structural, and commodity pesticidal fumigant. It also is used as a methylating agent, low-boiling solvent, and oil extractant in chemical syntheses. Less toxic chemicals have replaced it as a refrigerant and fire extinguisher constituent.

Health Effects Methyl bromide is a neurotoxic gas that can cause convulsions and coma. Exposure to high concentrations of pure methyl bromide may cause irritation of the eyes and nose, pneumonitis, and pulmonary edema. Lachrimators that are added to methyl bromide to provide warning of its presence also can cause these symptoms, even at low concentrations. Skin contact with high vapor concentrations or with liquid methyl bromide can result in systemic toxicity and may cause stinging pain and vesiculation. Acute Exposure -- Mechanism of Injury. Methyl bromide methylates the sulfhydryl groups of complex enzymes, causing cellular disruption and reduced glutathione levels. Cellular disruption, primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), results in progressive dysfunction. In sublethal poisoning, a latency period of 2 to 48 hours can occur between exposure and onset of symptoms.

Neurologic -

The most serious effects of acute inhalation exposure involve the CNS. Depending on the concentration and duration of exposure, initial neurologic effects may be delayed in onset for 2 or more hours after exposure and may include headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, vertigo, malaise, and visual disturbances. Examination may reveal nystagmus, dilated pupils, slurred speech, intention tremor, ataxia, impaired cutaneous sensation (light touch), cerebellar abnormalities, motor deficits, and decreased reflexes.

Neuropsychiatric abnormalities often occur after acute exposure, although onset may be delayed for days to weeks. In some cases, mental disturbances may predominate with only mild neurologic signs and no seizures; in others, severe status epilepticus may occur.

Respiratory -

Respiratory symptoms are the most likely nonneurologic effects of acute methyl bromide inhalation. Throat irritation, chest pain, and shortness of breath are common. Severe exposures may cause bronchitis, pneumonitis, and noncardiogenic pulmonary edema, which may be delayed up to 24 hours after exposure. Death may result from pulmonary or cardiovascular failure.

Cardiovascular -

Acute inhalation of high concentrations can cause ventricular fibrillation.

Renal -

Proteinuria, hematuria, oliguria, anuria, and uremia due to acute tubular necrosis have been described. Complete recovery is usual.

Hepatic -

Occasionally, jaundice and elevated serum liver enzymes occur after acute exposure.

Ocular -

High concentrations of methyl bromide vapor may cause corneal irritation and bums.

Dermal -

Methyl bromide is an intense vesicant. Contact with either liquid or high vapor concentrations may cause stinging pain, erythema, and blistering characteristic of second-degree bums.

Potential Sequelae -

Peripheral neuropathy, speech difficulty, and neuropsychiatric sequelae (such as ataxia, nystagmus, tremors, myoclonus, seizures, dementia, and psychosis) may develop weeks after exposure and may result in persisting neurologic disorders.

Chronic Exposure --

Repeated exposures have been associated with peripheral neuropathies, especially sensory neuropathy, ataxia, behavioral changes, and mild hepatic and renal dysfunction. Visual impairment secondary to optic atrophy has been reported in one chronically exposed fumigator.

Reproductive and Developmental Effects -

Methyl bromide is not considered to be a reproductive or developmental toxin. No human data are available and one animal study (in rats and rabbits) did not find teratogenicity at levels below those causing maternal death.

Carcinogenicity -

IARC states that the evidence for carcinogenicity of methyl bromide in humans is inadequate, and the evidence in animals is limited.

Birdlady,

Nice to see ya back again after that dustup with Celia Thaxter.

Poster raises a good point...where are the Greenies?? Where is the Sierra Club?? Or must we wait for the EVIL Republicans to retake the Whitehouse before the Treehuggers begin to protest...

-- Z (Z@Z.Z), January 23, 2000.

CIN:

Generally find your posts worthwhile. But wait a minute re 'methyl bromide' -- the post earlier is talking about 'diethylene bromide.' They're not the same animal. What gives?

william methyl bromide was the closest thing I could find to that compound, if it even exists. I'm certainly no chemist, if you have info on diethylene bromide, please post.

-- cin (cinlooo@aol.com), January 23, 2000.

Okay...ETHYLENE DIBROMIDE

I too am fascinated and skeptical about all this Chemtrail business. I would like to know the motive here IF there is a spraying going on.

I never payed attention to this until I was sent an email from a friend with a link to chemtrails over Houston last August. What made it interesting was that they were photographed over where I work, near downtown Houston. It showed the "X" pattern with very thick, white contrail in an otherwise crystal blue sky.

Not being a genius at physics or anything, normal contrails are produced when the heat of the engine exhaust hits the cold air, causing condensation. But this was in August, when the air is hotter than hell here in Houston. The contrails looked low to the ground, probably no higher than 5000 feet. The sun was shining through it for one photo, and turned the sun a reddish/pink color. That started my interest in this phenom.

My home is about 50 miles outside of Houston and in the flight path of Houston Intercontinental Airport when the jets land north to south. The skies are busy between 5 and 9 pm. The sky can be clear and every now and then I can see one or two contrails hanging in the sky while no other jet leaves one. FYI: My wife and I found 1999 to be a severe allergy season, which both of us abnormally being sick off and on through the entire year. People we know were getting flu- like symptoms in the middle of summer, which I never heard of until this last year.

I'm not a big government conspiratist, but this makes me wonder....

-- I AM (Trying@2B.Reasonable), January 23, 2000.

it is strange isn't it that those contrails leave black shadows sometimes in the sky? rainbows around the sun and black shadows.

-- tt (cuddluppy@aol.com), January 23, 2000.

Has it occured to anyone that the easiest way to implement a chemtrail spraying program is to add something to the fuel supply? That way every airplane becomes a chemtrail sprayer, and even "normal" contrails can be chemtrails. All that is required is a scheme to add a chemical to the fuel supply. An example of this is the deadly additive MTBE, mandated to be added to gasoline and responsible for the contamination of water supplies nationwide. The recent fuel contamination problem that has affected thousands of airplanes in Australia is another example of how a fuel contaminant can have widespread impact.

Could the "anti-anthrax" agent be added to standard airline jet fuel and be effectively dispersed by this method?

In addition to inadvertant spraying by airlines, the pattern of chemtrails photographed and in evidence on several web sites (some of which have been visited by numerous government agencies on many oocasions) indicate an intentional program of blanketing urban areas with contrails possession unusual properties. (Not the least of which being the formation of large visible contrails at altitudes where contrails would not normally form, and the merging of the contrails into sky-obscuring cloud cover. Many have also observed a "dust drifting downward" effect in large chemtrail/contrails, rainbow effects when backlit, and strong odors subsequent to spraying. Others have collected physical evidence after heavy chemtrail activity, including filaments, goo, brown powder, "angel hair", apparently different aspects of a similar substance. Those who handle the substance invariably come down with life-threatening "flus." Others have noticed an upsurge in local respiratory illness (although no authenticated studies have been performed to my knowledge) following heavy contrail activity.

Some Internet journalists have also reported on scientific testing laboratory analysis of chemtrail "fallout" that reveal exotic and normally only mildly dangerous bacteria and viruses, but when examined more carefully, those pathogens betray their origin in biotech labs, including telltale markers (similar to luciferase) of genetic modification.

Another concern is that a chemical additive (banned as a pesticide hazardous to humans) added to the jet fuel. Ethylene dibromide causes respiratory distress and makes the person exposed more vulnerable to respiratory infection, courtesy of the same contrail fallout. This dovetails into my theory quite nicely.

CIN:

We were BOTH mixed up -- I called it diethylene bromide when the substance actually is ethylene dibromide (which you correctly linked to.) Carry on.

Ceemeister: Please don't cross post the same material across several threads. Anyone picking up contrail threads will see it if you use only one. Try to choose the one most relevant to what you have to say.

-- Dancr (addy.available@my.webpage), January 24, 2000.

Perhaps people will pick up my message if I posted it in only once place, but my comment is one that I think needs to be considered and has not been mentioned in discussion of this topic. More people need to talk about the possibility of tampering with our country's jet fuel system. Imagine: every airplane could be spraying us with chemtrails!
