where to buy seeds

Hello, I spent 4 hours searching on the web for a place to buy soy bean seeds to plant. Did not find even one place. Does anyone buy and plant soy beans? Where do you get the seeds to plant? Thanks for your help. Sam

I have in the past grown soybeans. I bought some soybeans in bulk at my health food store and planted them. They did great. As long as they are not treated any way they should work.

I bought soy bean seeds from Johnny's....

After I planted them (in pots i made from newspapers and that potmaker)I transplanted them to my garden.

THEN someone told me that you couldn't grow soybeans in north Idaho. Well, they were in the ground, so I figured, if nothing else, they'd give back some nutrients back...

Well...they grew!!! Got a lot of them. No problem!

So, never really believe anyone...try for yourself!

I would suggest that you try the grain distributer that sells seed to the surrounding farmers, here in Ohio it is a farmers comission, they sell all kinds of seeds in bulk. Here in Ohio they grow by hundreds of acres. Good Luck.

Territorial seeds [www.territorial-seed.com]carrys a vegetable soybean called bn156 sayamusume which you can harvested green as a shelled vegetable or let them mature for dry bean. It says you grow them just like you would a bush bean. I plan on trying them this summer.

Sometimes soybeans are listed under "butterbeans". I believe I got mine from Johnny's

Vermont Bean Seed company sells the variety of soybeans that we raise for tofu, etc., but at the moment I can't recall the name of the variety. We had a hard time finding a seed company that sold the variety until a friend loaned us the Vermont Bean seed catalog last year- we have been growing them for many years, but just wanted to get a new seed supply.. Just recalled the variety is "Maple Arrow".

Be careful when buying the seeds that they are organic. A very large proportion of our country's soy beans are now genetically engineered.Even though the variety may be open pollinated, we are seeing a lot of problems with contamination from the genetically engineered crops due to insects and wind, etc. The best bet would seem to be to get seed that is certified organic, either from a seed company or from a health food store. Don't buy from a feed and seed type store.I don't know if this company has organic seeds or not, but Vermont bean and seeds has all kinds of bean seeds for sale.

I believe saddlebronc has your answer, assuming you plan to eat them. Territorial is your best bet in my opinion as well.
