The Human-Machine Assimilation mindset predicts the success of the technological project, indeed expects it to be all too successful. The Y2K mindset, on the other hand, predicts (or predicted) the failure of the technological project (collapse of modern infrastructure). The post-y2k mindset, among like-minded people, projects the same expectation of failure onto other possible triggers (oil, stock market, war). Which is right, God alone knows.
