1st Time this millenium

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

We should just about be in the end of month billing cycle for the first time this millennium. We'll see... And then of course the lookup for Feb. will require retrieval of stored data

Anyone giving odds? Guesses on the percentage of failures? Ramifications?

Minimal (negligible; non-newsworthy; isolated) problems. Buried in the sea of other computer glitches.

A significant monthly activity is the disbursement of funds from the myriad entitlement programs (Social Security, et al) administered by various government agencies. If I remember correctly, January's check were sent late last year. I guess this gives the programmers an extra month to resolve any "issues". (Couldn't solve it in five years but that extra month will just about do it!)

Ramifications? The modern welfare state depends on the ability to skim funds from productive people and redistribute this largesse to others. Turn off the spigot in the 'hood and I dare say we'll see the Rainbow Rebellion Part II.

With 65% (plus or minus) of small to medium sized business unremediated, this should be telling, vis a vis the size of the problem in the first place!

Millennium? Whats the date..did I sleep for a whole year?

George, I think Michael actually meant to say "1st time this YEAR", or possibly the last Jan EOM for this millenium. Everyone knows that the 3rd millenium doesnt start for another 331 days.
