One more curl problem (in the DR)greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread |
I noticed by FB paper can get quite curled while it sits in the orginal box. So much so that I have to bend it back so that I can slip it in the groove of my saunders 4 blade easel. But if I slightly tap the sheet once its in place there seems to be a little space above the easel, i.e. its bowing a bit. Yet when I originaly focused with my omega grain magnifier I know the base kept the print flat. Am I therefore not getting the most focused print? Maybe its too inconsequential, but if not does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

I have that problem too. I have no absolute solution. I think it is due to high humidity in the storage area. Possibly a dehumidifier, but might not be effective since it would have to be on forever. Possibly storage in the most dry place available...I'm not sure, but I do think the cause is moisture in the air.

Moisture in the air is the correct answer. The emulsion is a lot thinner than the paper and the paper is less dimensionally stable also. Store as flat as possible. James

It seems like my brains ate beans or something. Hmmm. I was going to say, I also have a piece of aluminum for my 16x20 paper that stays in the box on top of the paper so that when I take a sheet of paper out to print on it is flat as a pancake. I have no 16x20 easel so I just lay it down against my guides and print. It lays really flat. Try it. james

James uses alunminium? and I use a 3/4 in. thick piece of marble, very heavy in 8x10 and have no curl at all. Pat
