What were your results on the color quiz?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread

I copied all mine down. Boy, was this depressing. But then I went and took it again and lied, and the results were just as depressing, so I'm not going to take it too seriously -- especially since I think tests like these are pretty dumb.

Anyway, here were my "real" results:

Existing situation:

Non-realization of hopes and the inability to decide on necessary remedial action has resulted in considerable stress.

Stress source:

Resists any form of pressure from others and insists on her independence as an individual. Wants to make up her own mind without interference, to draw her own conclusions and arrive at her own decisions. Detests uniformity and mediocrity. As she wants to be regarded as one who gives authoritative opinions, she find it difficult to admit to being wrong, while at times she is reluctant to accept or understand another's point of view.

Restrained characteristics:

Believes that she is not receiving her share--that she is neither properly understood nor adequately appreciated. Feels that she is being compelled to conform, and close relationships leave her without any sense of emotional involvement. Wants to broaden her fields of activity and insists that her hopes and ideas are realistic. Distressed by the fear that she may be prevented from doing what she wants; needs both peaceful conditions and quiet reassurance to restore her confidence.

Desired objective:

Longs for sensitive and sympathetic understanding and wants to protect herself against argument, conflict, or any exhausting stresses.

Actual problem:

Greatly impressed by the unique, by originality, and by individuals of outstanding characteristics. Tries to emulate the characteristics she admires and to display originality in her own personality. Actual problem #2

Seeks to avoid criticism and to prevent restriction of her freedom to act, and to decide for herself by the exercise of great personal charm in her dealings with others.

I took it several days ago with similar results. It's good at zeroing in on stress.

Anyway, I wrote about my results here.

Existing situation:

Seeks to express the need for identification in a sensitive and intimate atmosphere where esthetic or emotional delicacy can be protected and nurtured.

Stress Sources

Wishes to be independent, unhampered, and free from any limitation or restriction, other than those which he imposes of himself or by his own choice and decision.

Your Restrained Characteristics

An unadmitted lack of confidence makes him careful to avoid open conflict and he feels he must make the best of things as they are.

Your Desired Objective

Seeks success, stimulation, and a life full of experience. Wants to develop freely and to shake off the shackles of self-doubt, to win, and to live intensely. Likes contacts with others and is enthusiastic by nature. Receptive to anything new, modern, or intriguing; has many interests and wants to expand his fields of activity. Optimistic about the future.

Your Actual Problem

Fights against restriction or limitation, and insists on developing freely as a result of his own efforts.

I got the same "actual problem" as Colin did -

>>>Fights against restriction or limitation, and insists on developing freely as a result of her own efforts.<<<

- but I ask you, what kind of moron would call that a *problem*????

I didn't copy all the results - too silly, but fun to take anyway, as most silly online tests are! :)

"Moody and depressed."

The quiz is just bitter because I picked monkeyshit brown before I picked yellow, that's all. And everyone knows that yellow is the color of shiny, happy well adjusted Stepford people.

It's rather slanted when you consider that 95% of the colors are dark tones, so it doesn't matter in which order you pick them - the results will always be as cheerful as a Morrissey song.

Mine was pretty accurate. I'm currently trying to write a thesis and apply to grad school in England....my boy is not to thrilled about me going away for a year to study. Suffering under major doubts. I don't know what the truncated "Sees herself as" is supposed to read.

Anyhow, it was a fun quick quiz.

Existing Situation

Sensitive; needs esthetic surroundings, or an equally sensitive and understanding partner with whom to share a warm intimacy.

Your Stress Sources

Eager to make a good impression, but worried and doubtful about the likelihood of succeeding. Feels that she has a right to anything she might hope for, and becomes helpless and distressed when circumstances go against her. Finds the mere possibility of failure most upsetting and this can even lead to nervous prostration. Sees herself as a

Your Restrained Characteristics

The situation is preventing her from establishing herself, but she feels she must make the best of things as they are.

Circumstances force her to compromise and to forgo some pleasures for the time being. Capable of achieving physical satisfaction from sexual activity.

Insists that her goals are realistic and sticks obstinately to them, even though circumstances are forcing her to compromise. Very exacting in the standards she applies to her choice of a partner.

Your Desired Objective

Unwilling to participate and wishes to avoid all forms of stimulation. Has had to put up with too much of a tiring or exhausting nature and now desires protection and noninvolvement

Your Actual Problem

Depleted vitality has created an intolerance for any further stimulation, or demands on her resources. A feeling of powerlessness subjects her to agitation, irritation, and acute distress from which she tries to escape by refusing further direct participation. She confines herself to a cautious approach and a concealed determination to get her own way in the end.

Your Actual Problem #2

Disappointment at the non-fulfillment of her hopes and the fear that to formulate fresh goals will only lead to further setbacks have resulted in considerable anxiety. She tries to escape from this by withdrawing and protecting herself with an attitude of cautious reserve. Moody and depressed.

Like most of you, my results seemed pretty dead-on at first blush. However, reading the results you all have posted here, I would have considered them applicable, too, had I received them instead. Like Beth said, it's like a horoscope; it seems specific, but it's actually so vague that it can seem to apply to nearly anyone.

The results were acurate the first time. The second time I took it and picked different colors, and the results were the same as the first, in abbreviated form.

And I can't really talk about it. I must go eat chocolate.

Not too far off the mark. I was kind of pleased by the first result: "Sensuous. Inclined to luxuriate in the things which give gratification to the senses, but rejects anything tasteless, vulgar,or coarse"

Pretty good for a WASP Republican Engineer!!! The other results were at least close, although a bit angsty and artsy-fartsy for me.

Current Situation:

Sensitive and understanding, but under some strain. Needs to unwind in the company of someone close to her.

Stress Sources:

Has an unsatisfied need to ally herself with others whose standards are as high as her own, and to stand out from the herd. This desire for preeminence isolates her and inhibits her readiness to give herself freely. While she wants to surrender and let herself go, she regards this as a weakness which must be resisted. This self-restraint, she feels, will lift her above the rank and file and ensure recognition as a unique and distinctive personality.

Restrained Characteristics:

Clings to her belief that her hopes and ideas are realistic, but needs encouragement and reassurance. Applies very exacting standards to her choice of a partner and wants guarantees against loss or disappointment.

Circumstances are forcing her to compromise, to restrain her demands and hopes, and to forgo for the time being some of the things she wants.

Desired Objective:

Takes easily and quickly to anything which provides stimulation. Preoccupied with things of an exciting nature, whether erotically stimulating or otherwise. Wants to be regarded as an exciting and interesting personality with an altogether charming and impressive influence on others. Uses tactics cleverly so as to avoid endangering her chances of success or undermined others' confidence in herself.

Actual Problem:

Greatly impressed by the unique, by originality, and by individuals of outstanding characteristics. Tries to emulate the characteristics she admires and to display originality in her own personality.

All of this was sort of painfully true. When I saw the "Current Situation" section, I gave a little gasp of surprise and recognition. I'm under stress at my job and am struggling to remain firm in my decision to have surgery in 2 months. And although I can appreciate my own good qualities, I definitely require more reassurance than I ask for or receive on a daily basis.

Depressed? No. A bit pissy -- yeah. I am NOT an egomaniac, I swear!

It pinpointed my insecurities pretty well though. And thankfully didn't beat me over the head with "moody and depressive" because I picked dark blue as one of my top 2 colors twice.

Blue can be a _happy_ color darnit.

Your Existing Situation

Seeks a close and understanding bond in an atmosphere of shared intimacy, as a protection against anxiety and conflict.

Your Stress Sources

Unfulfilled hopes have led to uncertainty and apprehension. Needs to feel secure and to avoid any further disappointment, and fears being passed over or losing standings and prestige. Doubts that things will be any better in the future and this negative attitude leads her to make exaggerated demands and to refuse to make reasonable compromises.

Your Restrained Characteristics

Relationships rarely measure up to her high emotional expectations and her need to be made the center of things, leading to disappointment . Always has mental reservations and tends to remain emotionally isolated and unattached.

Able to achieve satisfaction through sexual activity but is inclined to be emotionally withdrawn, which prevents her from becoming deeply involved.

The situation is preventing her from establishing herself, but she feels she must make the best of things as they are.

Circumstances force her to compromise and to forgo some pleasures for the time being. Capable of achieving physical satisfaction from sexual activity.

Your Desired Objective

Intense, vital, and animated, taking a delight in action. Activity is directed towards success or conquest and there is a desire to live life to the fullest.

Your Actual Problem

Disappointment and the fear that there is no point in formulating fresh goals have led to stress and anxiety. She wants congenial contact with others and scope for development, but feels that her relationships are empty and her progress impeded. She reacts with an intense and zealous activity designed to achieve her aims at all costs.

This resonates with me some, but not intensely. The thing about wanting more contact with others and delight in action is true, but certainly not the parts about satisfaction from sexual activity!

Ive taken this test from the book with its little cards. Sometimes it felt dead on, sometimes not. Its interesting.

I thought the results were really, really general -- One useful thing I learned (besides the fact that I like the color orange better than I thought - maybe I'll try it in my ties) is that a lot of people must feel frustrated with their lack of control over life. I feel better for the company.

Judy--our problem:

>>>Fights against restriction or limitation, and insists on developing freely as a result of his or her own efforts.<<<

- but I ask you, what kind of moron would call that a *problem*????

I think their idea is that it's a kinda hopeless fight.

-- Anonymous, February 02, 2000

I don't know, Gabby...I picked that bright yellow first both times, and my results were still depressing. Does that quiz have any non-depressing results?

-- Anonymous, February 02, 2000

I attempted to take the test, but after my stupid Netscape browser fucked it up twice and it refused to continue, I gave up. Probably just as well, though, when I see the results it did give to people I don't think I really need that sort of computer-determined insight into me, I'm well aware of my problems as it is

Tonight We Sleep In Separate Ditchesin which I may expatiate at length on my problems. You've been warned :)

Ohmigod, I got the same results as the WASP Republican engineer! Does someone have a rock available that I can crawl under?

-- Anonymous, February 03, 2000

Although doing so violates my loose and crumbling rules about explicit disclosure, I posted the results of my taking the quiz here. The one line in my result that I haven't seen anyone else mention yet is "She attempts to escape into a substitute world in which things are more nearly as she desires them to be." If an online journal where I can spin, omit, and slant my life so that I document and remember only the bits I want, isn't a substitute world, tell me what is.

Freakishly on target: [shudder]

Your Existing Situation
Seeks to express the need for identification in a sensitive and intimate atmosphere where esthetic or emotional delicacy can be protected and nurtured.

Your Stress Sources
Feels that life has far more to offer and that there are still important things to be achieved--that life must be experienced to the fullest. As a result, she pursues her objectives with a fierce intensity that will not let go of things. Becomes deeply involved and runs the risk of being unable to view things with sufficient objectivity, or calmly enough; is therefore in danger of becoming agitated and of exhausting her nervous energy. Cannot leave things alone and feels she can only be at peace when she has finally reached her goal.

Your Restrained Characteristics
Feels that she cannot do much about her existing problems and difficulties and that she must make the best of things as they are. Able to achieve satisfaction from sexual activity. Circumstances are restrictive and hampering, forcing her to forgo all joys and pleasures for the time being.

Your Desired Objective
Seeks an affectionate relationship, offering fulfillment and happiness. Capable of powerful emotional enthusiasm. Helpful, and willing to adapt herself if necessary to realize the bond of affection she desires. Needs the same consideration and understanding from others.

Your Actual Problem
Needs to achieve a stable and peaceful condition, enabling her to free herself of the worry that she may be prevented from achieving all the things she wants.

Well, at least there's "satisfaction from sexual activity" - um yah - ok.
