SO MPs are demanding action over the fall in gas safety.
I live beside the A89 and walk 100 yards of its verge most mornings. During the days of British Gas the pipe thereunder was repaired a number of times over the years. During the past couple of years I have phoned Transco three or four times to report a smell of gas along the said verge. I have also phoned the Health and Safety Executive. Nothing has happened.
Earlier this week when this verge was part flooded there was not only a smell of gas, the puddles over the pipe resembled a bubble- bath! Safety standards? Not if you live in the country.
