Wednesday, February 9, 2000 Planes make emergency landings at Calgary airport

By CAMERON MAXWELL, CALGARY SUN Two planes were forced to make emergency landings at Calgary International Airport yesterday.

One was a Falcon-100 jet that lost one of its two engines, while the other was a Northwest Airlines DC-9 that had mechanical problems.

The Falcon, a plane similar to a Learjet, with five passengers on board, was en route from Winnipeg to Vancouver.

It landed safely in Calgary with one engine at about 1:30 p.m., said Wayne Reimer, the airport duty manager.

In the morning, a Northwest Airlines jet bound for Minneapolis with 72 passengers on board, turned around about 30 minutes after takeoff because of a mechanical malfunction.

Fire crews were on standby when the plane landed safely at 9:10 a.m. No passengers were injured on either flight.
