Were there any silver with red lettering covered gondolas?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

As you all probably know; Athearn has made a silver colored 50 ft covered gondola with red letters in SR for many years. Is this paint scheme a prototypical one? It looks very good and is similar to one used on the bathtub coal gondolas SR used in the 60's. Please drop us a line and let us know.

Many thanks,

Joe Rose

The Southern never had any silver (aluminum) covered gons. The only aluminum gons were the Silversides built in 1960 for coal service. Incidentally, they were not "bathtub" gons.
