Response to OH THE SHOCK

This was about the worst thing I have ever seen. I was queasy. My husband is laughing at me for getting all upset and being online--my bet is Carter lives, and as much as it hacks me off, Lucy doesn't. Why did she have to die having such a bad day? That's a rotten way to get rid of a character. I liked h

THIS STINKS! The dog has to be shocked to be revived, the parents of the two young kids die, and then Carter and Lucy get injured? Please do something, call a doctor!! Call a writer, a producer, DON'T LET THEM DIE!!

This just makes the remainder of my day suck even worse.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

Just saw the episode...Lucy's definately going to die. I really didn't want her too cuz she kinda grew on me. My bet is Carter won't die, there's been no rumors that he's leaving the show right?

Response to OH THE SHOCK

I had heard what was going to happen and I am still shaky after having watched that ending. I think that Kellie Martin did her best acting ever on ER without even saying a word... The sad, helpless, hopeless look that she gave Carter was so poignent. It seemed to be tinged with a bit of disappointment... In psycho Paul, in her mentor Carter, and in her "gullible" self... I'm sorry for rambling, but I'm still shaken up... That was creepy!

Response to OH THE SHOCK

OH MY GOD!!!! Wow, what a great episode!!!! I cannot believe it! I totally disagree with everyone else about how the first 55 minutes were a waste of time. They were awesome. The show/actors were certainly in top form. I felt so sad when the parents of those kids died (but I thought Cleo, Luka, Carol were great w/them), I laughed at Mark's dad singing, and then Elizabeth's mom joining in, and then I felt complete and utter shock at what happened to Carter and Lucy. Even though I knew it was coming it was still horrible to watch. I am still creeped out. To all you worry warts out there - Carter DOESN'T die. If anyone dies, it will be Lucy. But, she might even live - the previews showed her alive and cleaned up (although hooked up to a ventilator), so who knows? I knew as soon as that Paul guy came on, that he was going to be the one that did it (although I thought he was going to shoot them - like what all the rumors said). I knew he was the mugger, and that he was going to attack Carter and Lucy, and that when Carter went in to find Lucy, that she was going to be injured, and that he was going to get hurt. I did not expect all that creepiness, though. UGH! Carter trying to get up, then seeing Lucy all bloody and dieing, and then both of them passing out. It was amazing acting, writing, direction, etc. I'm still getting chills. The whole episode was incredible. I CAN NOT wait for next week!!!!!

I'm sorry for all the randomness in this message, I'm still in shock.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

Carter can not die! He is my favorite, has been since the first episode! I don't want lucy to die either, but I have a horrible feeling that Carter might die since everyone is expecting Lucy too. I thought the wierdo was going to shoot Lucy, the stabbing was a total shock for me.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

That was such a good ep the first 55min were not a waste cause they built up to the end, it was so sad when the parents of those kids died, and when that elderly lady died. But I was watching and was thinking ok, there is nothing unexpected happening etc etc... and waiting to see what would happen and was sooo shocked when Carter was attacked. Ok I do have one prob-was the guy schitzo(sp??) or what(someone put something about a mugging-did i miss something??) Ok I hve also heard the rumors that Lucy will die-if she did not sign on for a full year then yes, they will prob kill her off as a way to get rid of her charactar, same with Carter(if Noah did not renew his contract for the whole season) but I dont see why he wouldnt' nor have I heard anything and I dont' think they'd kill him off(least I hope not) also just because the previews show someone cleaned up or breathing, doesn't mean they will survive(i hope so, but a lot can happen in an hour show) I can't wait til next week oh but I do think somoene will die(i dont' want them to) but I think someone will just cause of how they are going on about how it is a big turning point.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

Lucy's last look - completely believeable! It was absolutely haunting. As an EMS provider for many years, there is nothing that raises the hair on my neck more than that "look" a badly injured person gives when they know they are dying. Sorry if it sounds corny, but for those few seconds that they focused on Lucy, it sent chills down my spine. Sadness, horror, helplessness, terror - what a scene!

Response to OH THE SHOCK

OH, MY GOD!!!! That LOOK! I was an EMT for 15 years.....that look was, (if you'll pardon the expression)DEAD on. How did she practice for that shot??? The look between her & Carter was just amazingly perfect. It will be a great show next week, as well.

Does anyone know what she'll be doing when she leaves ER?

-- Val Stewart (vstewart@heliparts.com), February 11, 2000.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

I was totally impressed with Kellie Martin. I haven't seen a look that chilling on a woman's face on a television show since Sheryl Lee on Twin Peaks. Brrr! It gave me the chills.

I also creeped my husband out by saying "I bet the guy's wife (who wasn't answering any of Lucy's calls) is dead at their house..."

Anyone else think so?

-- Barbara Sirois Doyle (barbara@sirois.com), February 11, 2000.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

Yep, I thought of that earlier too. After I realized the fellow is completely homicidal, stole the kitchen knife from the lounge used to cut the cake in a premeditated sense, it dawned on me that his wife was not answering the phone because she's dead. What a creepy show. The music at the end really got to me, along with "the look" from Lucy and Carter's very bewildered look. He didn't understand at all what just happened to him until he hit the floor. My husband couldn't understand why this episode creeped me out more than the others, but now I understand it wasn't just me.

-- Marcy (marcy@cbt.net), February 11, 2000.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

Yes, I thought about the guy's wife being dead at home as well. I want to know how it seems everyone knew what was going to happen before last night's show even aired? Even my husband knew and he is not even into it? Where do you guys get this info?

Response to OH THE SHOCK

I couldn't believe that episode. I haven't continuously watched for awhile. But I figured that there are so many reruns, and I hate tuninig in to find it be a rerun. Anyway, I hadn't heard all the hype about Kellie Martin leaving the show until today. That was a perfect show...I have to say that I didn't much care for Kellie when she first started on the show. As time has gone on, she has become stronger, and more involved in her character. Seems that alot of story lines repeat themselves though. When Carter was a student under Benton, there was alot of animosity between them. Now between Lucie and Carter. Because it is sweeps time, of course all the episodes are going to be heart-wrenching. We will all shed a tear for them. Apparently, Lucie will die, and Carter will live with the guilt of not listening to her in the first place about the authorization for a psych consult on that freak!

Response to OH THE SHOCK

I couldn't believe what I saw!

I've never been here before but as the credits rolled I hurried to my computer to see what I could find. I started with NBC.com and clicked on ER. I probably don't need to tell you, fans of ER, how extremely busy the Web was at 11:00 p.m. EST. I couldn't get in. Sooooo, here I am today to confirm my worst fears.

This week is going to be waaaaay too long!

Response to OH THE SHOCK

As for how some people knew what was going to happen, personally I had a feeling it was coming so I went looking online and an article in the Post broke the story about a week ago and was then picked up by E! Online and some other sources. I think as it got closer it was on the radio as well and someone said they heard KM talking about it on TV.

But like some others, even knowing it was coming (and come on, for those who knew, it was perfectly obvious what Carter was going to find) I was completely shocked and horrified by the way the scene was acted and shot. Props to everyone involved, especially KM, whom I've never even liked before today. I actually felt like I was having a nightmare about someone I knew dying.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

As with many above, I too could not shake the image of Lucy Knight's face (particularly her eyes) as she lay on the floor critically (fatally?) wounded. Unlike most persons above, I watched the show with no inkling of the rumours of Lucy's departure or that some sort of impending doom awaited in this episode. The result? For me a very gripping and shocking episode. I really like (liked?) Lucy's character and would be very disappointed to see her off the show.

On other items, it seems they are softening the Dr. Romano character up a bit in the last few episodes. There's the bit where he finally gave in to Lucy's "crazed energizer bunny" persistence and operated (in vain) on that girl who needed a heart transplant. Then he gave in (from a hospital bed) to Dr. Benton for the operation on the disfigured girl. Now this most recent display of a softer side by letting us know he has a pet dog and the lengths he'll for his pet.

I wonder if the irascible, but obviously talented, Romano will be the one who discovers Lucy and Carter and works heroically to save ... let's see ... who? ... Lucy? Any thoughts, opinions, guesses "out there" as to who will find Lucy and Carter and how they'll find them? Perhaps such speculation is all moot? As I mentioned above, I'm not overly "in the loop" on the rumours, future episodes, etc. Please fill me in if I am obviously missing what might be common knowledge.

A final question ... for now. What would be the expected diagnosis for the psycho who attacked Lucy then Carter? Paranoid schizophrenic? Will he remember? I bet he doesn't. Last comment: I also think the pscyho's wife is dead.

Can't wait for the next show. I'll certainly be contributing to their ratings boost.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

I think this was the best television cliff-hanger since who shot JR on Dallas. I could not sleep last night after the show. I think that Kari Weaver finds them. My question is will they find the psycho or will her get away?

Response to OH THE SHOCK

Oh my god, I didn't even think of that guy's wife being dead!!! I'm totally freaking out now!

-- Lisa (Shaniakicks@hotmail.com), February 11, 2000.

Response to OH THE SHOCK

Someone asked about what would be the diagnoses for the patient who attacked Lucy and Carter. I have a psychology background and he would definitely fit the category for "paranoid schizophrenic." He exhibited a lot of paranoia in his behavior and accusations. Obviously, he is homicidal and delusional and underwent a psychotic break! Just my two cents and some "armchair" psychology too. :)

Can't wait to see what happens next week... Monika :)
