Lucy's Expression

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I re-watched the end again just now and the more I re-watch this the more I think Lucy shut her eyes on purpose to make that guy think she was dead, and I think she was trying to warn Carter when she did so.

Carter, on the other hand, looked like he actually did pass out.

I wish I had taped it. I thought she was just scared and in shock and such. Do you think she was really warning Carter with her look? I tend to think the guy must have left the room. Guess we'll find out next week.

I hear that the guy is going to be "On the Loose" and noody can find him.

-- mckenzie (cwbsierraangel@aol.com), February 11, 2000.

I don't know if Lucy was trying to warn Carter or not but I do know that everyone I have talked to cannot get that scene out of their mind. I woke up this morning and the first thing I saw was Lucy's face. Even the guys my boyfriend works with cannot get over it.

-- Kerry Bently (kikie2@earthlink.net), February 11, 2000.

As much as I try I can not get Lucy's face out of my head. Maybe it was a fluke or some fantastic acting, but she looked petrified and in pain all at the same time.

Her is expression and Carter's are seriously haunting me!

That final scene was truly horrifying. My husband was actually so pale and shaking I thiought he was going to pass out. Granted he doesn't watch mush T.V., but all the same... I think the guy stabbed them in the back because 1st, he's demented, but 2nd, to get back for the spinal tap.

-- Not on your life! (RachelRR@ivillage.com), February 11, 2000.

OK...I watched the show last night and I was really disturbed by the attack. It was so quick that I couldn't really see what happened. Did anyone catch the extent of the stab/slash? It looked like it was more near his waist.....whatever it was, it was scary. I won't be picking any Valentine cards off the floor for a while!

-- Kristi (kboehm@aronex-pharm.com), February 11, 2000.

I don't think Lucy was warning Carter since he had already been stabbed I think she was concerned for Carter and upset he was stabbed as well, also probably in shock!! She looked pretty bad (as in bloody)

-- Kimberly Whitaker (whitakerkimberly@hotmail.com), February 11, 2000.

I couldn't believe it, I think my face turned pale, and I was shaking soooo bad. I felt like a leaf. What a great scene!

-- Helen (Jaina15@prodigy.net), February 11, 2000.

I'm so glad other people felt this way too. When I came into work today and told my co-worker how shocked I was, she just said, "Oh, I saw that coming." It's not that I was that surprised, it's just the acting was so believable and the look on Lucy's face was just terrifying. I almost wish I hadn't seen the scenes to next week to know what happens next.

I have never seen that calibre of acting from either Noah Wylie or Kellie Martin. They totally blew my mind away. As a film major I have to say that that was a fascinating 5 minutes...if it was even that long!

-- Hiei Minamino (hieiM@yahoo.com), February 11, 2000.

I was terrified. When they zoomed in on Carter's face and then they showed Lucy, I was in shock. The look on her face was horrible. I couldn't sleep, and everyone in school who saw it couldn't sleep. When I woke up, I saw Lucy's face. I hope the guy isnt in the room. And, I'm thinking that the guy got the knife (assuming that's what he used) to stab them, from the lounge. And i think that Kerry finds them. Oh boy!

-- danielle (dpsax4@aol.com), February 11, 2000.

It seemed to me that Carter was stabbed in the back by the kidney which will obviously do some life-threatening damage. When they panned over to Lucy, there looked like to me to be blood by her neck, which led me to believe he slashed her throat. I am sure it was a scalpel he used, being in a hospital and all. Truly a terrifying ending, and well acted. I know Kelli Martin is exiting the show as I read it some time ago, I guess we know what will happen next week. Too bad, she is a good actress, they should have given her more face time.

-- Bo (bo_cutter@hotmail.com), February 11, 2000.

remember he was in the lounge. And at the Valentine's Party a nurse asked where the big knife was. I think he took the knife from the lounge. I also think he was sufferinf PTSD. He talked about studying at the diner and being afraid of walking in the park. He said he might have been mugged. Either he is the mugger or maybe he was mugged and raped. He seemed very fearful of his friend who came to check on him. Maybe he is afraid of being attacked again.

I agree with all those people who, like both myself and my fiancee, were deeply troubled by the images of Lucy and Carter in the final scene. We rarely take anything that we see on television to heart; however, last night's episode left us so disturbed that we were both unable to sleep for the nearly the entire night. A supreme acting job and, of course, a well placed episode given that it's ratings week.

-- N. Hamlet (nhamlet@home.com), February 11, 2000.

I agree that Lucy appeared to have been slashed in the throat...

They way I saw it, she seemed to be trying to cry for help but could not get any sound out because her vocal chords had been slashed (maybe???).

I guarantee that Carter's stab wound will be to one of his kidneys. The attacker stabbed and then turned the knife after piercing the skin.

I taped the show last night and watched it tonight. My daugters kept asking me if I had watched it yet, and said how good it was, and when I finally watched it tonight, I wish I hadn't. It would have been better to wait until Tues. or Wed. , when I wouldn't have to wait so long to see the follow -up show. I must admit , during the whole show , I kept wondering why my girls said it was such a great show, it seemed to be the usual, but that last five-minutes was just mind-blowing. The writers and actors deserve a thumbs up, and this episode will eventually see an emmy nomination!!!

If you listen to the chatter just before Carter leaves the party to go find out why Lucy hasn't sutured the other man's leg (since he'd been there 4 hours) you can hear one of the nurses say "I think there's a bigger knife in the lounge."

I'm guessing on a kidney wound for Carter as well and Lucy will bleed out but not before a few close calls at saving her. I am willing to put money on it that Carter is going to have some heavy PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) issues to deal with. All this violence will probably be what drives Carol to leave for something a little more "sane". I really enjoyed the episode. I'd read all the spoilers on this sight so I was prepared but it was still a great episode. Have to say though that I did NOT miss Kerri even one little bit.

Oh by the way - Ramano is such a little piss-ant. Elizabeth's mother should have decked him.

Last night's episode was truly amazing, and terrifying. I kept on looking at the clock and wondering why nothing had happened yet. The last five minutes said it all. The killer was the guy who played Michael in "10 Things I hate About You" I was significantly disturbed by the episode and could not get to sleep. I taped the show, but I don't know if I want to watch it again. Many of my friends had watched it and ithers had taped it. We kept on warning those who had taped it that they were going to be freaked out. I think the end was very well acted be Kellie Martin and Noah Wyle. The show should be up for an Emmy!

-- (operagrrl@worldnet.att.net), February 11, 2000.

I couldn't sleep either, and I've been thinking about it all day! Lucy's expression looked just like the lady in "Psycho" who was killed in the shower. I agree with everyone who thinks Lucy's throat was slashed and I think he got the knife from the lounge or why would they have mentioned it? They could have left out the story about Romano's dog, though! Can't wait until next week!!!!

-- (chayes5@webtv.net), February 11, 2000.

Yes, I see an Emmy nomination in Kellie Martin's future for this one! She just seemed so helpless and to confused...I don't really think she knew what was going on, she was in shock I'm sure, cuz god knows how long she'd been lying there! I think I'm going to agree with the person that thinks Carol is going to leave because of it. Remember when she was watching the little boy going to see his dead parents...I think she may have been thinking about her kids and having no father around and what of something happened to her, where would her kids be. So this would be the perfect excuse for her to leave.

-- Joy Norrie (joijoy@webtv.net), February 12, 2000.

That final shot of Lucy reminded me of the shocking last scene of Diane Keaton in "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" where the camera was about 6 feet away hovering above her, with the obvious implications, after she had been stabbed to death. It was a similar type of shot with the same kind of distance, silence and haunting, memorable expression on Lucy. The under the bed shot was definitely compelling.

-- (ncote@yorku.ca), February 12, 2000.

yes I think this might be the emmy pick this year. I'd nominate Laura Innes for an award for director, not just for that last haunting few minutes, but the rest of the episode. I thought she did a great job and hope she directs more. When ER ends (God forbid) I hope she becomes a director. (I do like her acting too.)

-- chris (cdbragg@hotmail.com), February 12, 2000.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who is still haunted by the look on Lucy's face. I was feeling sort of weird about it. There were so many emotions displayed, and I just got this horrorific feeling. Probably was worse after watching the kids lose their parents. I cried for an hour!

Remember early in the show when Lucy was trying to call the guy's wide and kept getting the answering machine? He said something about her shopping with a friend. Whaddya bet that she is laying dead at their home?

-- Paula Miller (paulam@yahoo.com), February 12, 2000.

According to all of the rumors, Lucy is going to be killed off this season, and the way she looked at the end looks like it could happen. Her throat was slashed and she was REALLY pale. And from the comments about how long she had been waiting for the psych consult, it is a good bet she had been onthe floor a long time and is passing out. There was mention of him being scizophrenic, hence the psych consult right? So how many people would try to fool a psychotic guy in a dark room by playing dead? Once he slashed her, I doubt he would do what he is going to do mindless of if she is dead or not.
