Year2000 In The News Online

********** From the Producer's Desk

I received a very nice letter from John Koskinen postmarked The White House. It is always nice to get an envelope from the White House. When people see it in the mail stack they kind of come to attention where they sit. I reproduced it below.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Dear Jon,

Now that the dust has settled somewhat, let me say that I've appreciated the work you and Peter de Jager did to provide updated information to your subscribers about the status of Y2K preparations in organizations around the world. My monthly telephone calls with Peter also allowed us to share perspectives and compare notes.

I found your suggested clippings a very good adjunct to other materials I was receiving and I appreciated your efforts to provide a balanced view of what was actually happening in the world these past couple of years.

All the best for the New Year -and New Millennium.

Sincerely

John A. Koskinen President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I was glad to get that letter. It made me feel good.

Before New Mexico got it's third representative, the Congressman for the northern part of the state was Manual Lujan. Northern New Mexico was solidly Democrat while the South was just as solidly Republican. You would think that the representative for the North would be a Democrat but Lujan was a conservative Republican who kept getting elected. Was it because of the power he had achieved from a long stay in Congress? Not really. He kept getting elected because if you ever wrote or called him on any matter he would send you a letter in reply, and a follow up later to check to see you got what you needed. For most people in Northern New Mexico, he was their personal representative and they knew they could call on him at any time. They felt they had input into what was happening in Washington and he helped his constituents with whatever government issue that was troubling them. They felt good about him and their government. And he always thanked everyone who wrote him.

Everyone likes to get a letter of thanks when they do a good job, and we really did a good job with Y2K. I wish everyone could get the thanks they deserve for this "thankless" job. You certainly deserve it and more.

Y2K -- what really happened? Robin Guenier -- Executive Director, Taskforce 2000 http://www.year2000.com/archive/NFreally.html

We expect that this list will continue reporting on the aftereffects of Year 2000 computing issues until the end of February 2000, at which time we plan to transition this publication to exploring how electronic commerce and the Internet are changing our lives and the world we live in.
