What town does Rockville(Don't go Back to) refer to? I've heard rumors that it is Starkville, Mississippi, but I was wondering if any one could give me a solid answer about it.

As far as I know, it was written by Mike about a fictional girl thinking of leaving a town. It was recorded as a joke for the guys lawyer, Bertis Downs. I have not read anywhere that there was really a plce, but I could be wrong

Mike is referring to Rockville, Maryland. According to the story, Mike had a huge crush on a girl in college and she was contemplating going back to her home town of Rockville, Maryland. (It's located close to Washington D.C.) I've actually been there and it's a nice town...I would go back! I've seen them play at Merryweather Post in Maryland and they have yet to play that song! Maybe next tour...

This has nothing to do with the song, but I heard that the human genome thingy has just been decoded by genetic scientists in Rockville, USA. Famous town, huh?
