Sunpak 444D on a FT-1

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Konica 35mm SLRs : One Thread

I just bought a new Sunpak 444D to use on my Konica FT-1. After reading the intruction manual I still have two questions. I bought the mating KX-1D module used on ebay and did not get any instructions with it.

How do I put the flash in a mode that will let me use the switch on the KX-1D to control the f stops? I suspect the answer is to push the Auto/Manual Selector Switch to the down most position that makes the windows go blank. The manual tells me to refer to the modual instructions which I do not have.

My second question is. Why is the 75 degree angle mark yellow with a little icon next to it? Is this some sort of special position?

I'm already familure with the use of the Konica X-24 and how to use it. I'm just looking for Sunpak 444D/ Konica Module specific information.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give on the use of this flash on my Konica.

I have one of these too. I hope you have better luck with it than I. I had it replaced, twice, under the warranty.

To answer your questions, yes, to get into dedicated mode you push the switch on the back next to the distance/f-stop display down all the way so the blue dot shows.

The icon at the 75 degree mark is to remind you that it's their recommended position for using the folding bounce card.

Good luck, Steve

sunpak 422d kx-1d

i have a konica fs-1 and auto 422d sunpak flash with kx-1d module, and have the manual for the flash, but no instructions for the module. the flash manual p13 says to use a remote sensor move the switch to * and follow the indications appearing on the remote sensor.

the sensor has a three position switch on it 5.6 11 std

i assume this means set the lens manually to 5.6 and fire away

any ideas?

Using kx-1d

Actually, with an FS-1, leave the lens on AE/EE. If you set the KX-1D on 5.6, the camera will set the lens to 5.6 by itself. The 5.6 LED in the viewfinder will blink to verify this. Similarly for 11. The camera will also set the shutter to the flash sync speed of 1/60 regardless of the setting on the camera. There is no need to set the ASA speed on the flash, just be sure it is correct on the camera, as usual. This is "dedicated" flash operation.

Set the KX-1D to STD and you lose the dedicated operation. The flash will operate in either the automatic exposure or manual modes, depending on the setting of the mode switch on back.

I could Xerox a KX-1D instruction sheet and send it to you if you like.

Best, Steve
