Strange new file in Windows directory "Internet Logs"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Reinstalled windows 98B yesterday, added ZoneAlarm 20, and did a windows update. A new file appears under windows, and is called "Internet Logs". It contains personal history, microsoft programs run and registered, copies of log pages visited, and is a very large and long file. Have been through this computer many times over and thought I was pretty familiar with every file on it. NEVER remember seeing this one before yesterday. Is this in everybody's win98 directory, or did I pick this up when I got my last windows update? Just wondering???

Suzy:

There has always been a directory under Windows called "History" that contains a history of web sites visited and pages viewed for the last X days. I don't know if this is what you mean or if Windows 98 SE installs something new.

Additional: This NEW file is in addition to all the normal windows internet files: i.e., cookies, temp, temporary internet, history. Yesterday is the first time I have ever seen the "Internet Logs" file.

Zone alarm puts a directory called internet logs into the windows directory. See their support page at...

Thanks John. That is it, should have read a little further. Had a little case of paranoia for a few minutes and wondered if it was some new microswift tracking system.

Suzy, It is! It will also supply a full dialogue of your likes to anyone who wants to buy the file from the contracting site... Microsoft, AOL, it doesn't matter ...every computer comes with an ID and every program sold legally comes with idependent ID to identify you and your likes and political status, religious status, etc.
