By TODD NELSON, Staff Writer
Passengers aboard a Continental Airlines flight from Raleigh-Durham International Airport got a scare Thursday when the aircraft suddenly lost cabin pressure, forcing them to don oxygen masks and prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing. The loss of cabin air pressure occurred as the Boeing 737, carrying 67 passengers and five crew members, was approaching its destination, Newark International Airport, Continental spokeswoman Michele Treacy said. -SNIP- http://search.nando.net/plweb-cgi/fastweb?getdoc+nao_public_archive+nao-today+10183+24++emergency

Sporadic outages block 911 calls RALEIGH -- Some 911 callers weren't able to reach the Emergency Communications Center on Saturday afternoon because of telephone line outages reported by BellSouth. The technical problems blocked some calls coming from St. Mary's Street south to Varsity Drive and east to Yonkers Road, the Raleigh Police Department reported. The city placed extra officers in those neighborhoods to make sure they would be in place to respond to any emergencies. By Saturday night, the repair work was finished and 911 service was restored.
