I haven't heard anyone mention this yet, but it just struck me that if Lucy was stabbed in her chest and abdomen, that means at some point, she was facing Paul as he stabbed her. My guess is that he stabbed her in the neck first and then she turned around. The floor of the room doesn't seem to indicate a struggle though (although I'm not sure how much you could have struggled after being stabbed in the neck). I guess I just thought it was important to show that Lucy knew exactly what had happened to her. She certainly knew when she was lying on the floor facing Carter (even if she didn't remember later when she awoke). Does this make sense? It makes her later scenes that much more compelling I think.

Lucy wasn't necessarily facing her attacker; he could have caused all of those wounds by reaching around from behind her with the knife. After the initial stab, I doubt that Lucy could have had time enough to collect herself and turn around before the following attacks; Carter's wounds weren't half as serious and he was on the floor in seconds. He did not even attepmt to face his attacker. So I don't think that the fact that Lucy's wounds were frontal means that Paul didn't attack from behind. Just my opinion.

The only reason why I'm not so sure she faced Paul is that I don't remember seeing any defensive wounds on her face or arms. One would think that she would have put her arms up in defense if she'd seen him coming and would have sustained cuts from that.
