Lucy Who?

Is anyone else out there disappointed with "Be Patient"? I'm absolutely floored that this latest episode virtually breezes by Lucy's death! Here I am still in the throes of grieving over Lucy's tragic demise (and the emotional ramifications to Carter,Kerry,Romano & the rest of the ER) and damn it I expected everyone in the ER to do the same! It's as if this episode diminished the intense reality and connection the audience made with the last episode by dismissing it so easily! This episode was so lacking in emotion...such a sorry follow up to the intensity of last weeks. I guess we all missed the memorial service to Lucy... I hope that's not the last of it...Lucy deserved better and so does the audience that

I totally agree with you. Wish there had been more mention of Lucy and Carter.

I agree with you Ann. And everything that delt with Lucy was so fragmented. We see Lucy's mom then it changes to Elizibeth etc. but that didn't stop me from crying my eyes out.

Did I mention that I was crying too? With utter deisapointment?

I couldn't disagree more. I think it was very important that they get things back to normal in the show. After such intensity it was necessary to get a change of pace. I was very curious to see how well the could do it while still putting in enough about Carter and Lucy. I thought it was an excellent episode. Remember last year's big February. A two part episode when Doug Left for good and the next week it was Peter Benton In the Heat of the Night...They Call me Doctor Benton...Sorry...But after 2 eps of Doug Leaving they got as far away as they could. Anyway, I think the show could bog down with too much dwelling on this. Tom

I have to agree with you! Did anyone even notice that Lucy had died! I was so disappointed I thought they would have spent some time missing her. I also believe she deserved better. I hope they just don't expect her to die the death she did and viewers not wanting some kind of reaction. I needed much more from this episode then I got. Lets hope they have that coming up. They made more of a big deal when Dr Ross left then they did when Lucy was killed.

I didn't like this episode very much--I guess I was just looking for more closure on the Carter/Lucy thing. Lucy's death and the stabbings have got to be some of the most dramatic events EVER on ER--I mean Doug Ross left alive, and Lucy leaves tragically murdered, and nothing special really happens afterwards. I thought the Luka story was shallow and not all that intriguing, to be truthful. And the Kerry/Abby storyline was so predictable...yeah, I'm disappointed, but at least it was a new episode! Next week, rerun? Yuck.

I agree to some extent. I would have liked to see more of a reaction about Lucy's death, at least more of the characters talking about it or something! The scenes between Lucy's mom and Carter were good, but not long enough, in my opinion. On the other hand, I don't think you can expect some of the staff people to miss her a lot, especially the new ones. They all worked together, but you never really saw that Lucy developed close friendships with any of them. The closest she ever came was probably with Carter, but even those two had been sniping at each other lately. The shock came from having a fellow colleague murdered at work, but I doubt that they will really miss her on a personal level.

I thought last nights epi was pretty good. I thought the scene with Malucci and Lucy's mom was good- exactly how you would expect him to act. And the subtle mentions of Lucy were good like when Deb mentioned she was doing her charts. I would have liked to have seen Kerry at least mention something about Lucy considering she took her death so hard. But you can't expect them to dwell on it. They have work to do and it has been several days. I did like Luka's storyline last night -- please develop his character. He is great!

LOL I made a beelinme for your thread b/c I was going to title mine "Lucy who?" as well. But you beat me to it. So. . . I have to say I agree with you 100%. I of course did not want an epi where everyone sits around crying, but my God, you'd think Carter and Lucy were on vacation or something. Even when Gant died, they showed the preparation for and closing of his memorial. The only good parts of the epi were Carter and Benton and Carter with Lucy's mom. (Didn't you just want to grab Malucci and shake him when he was speaking with her?) Like someone else said I just didn't give a damn about Luka or his patient, and as far as Kerry/Abby goes, wow, an attending discharges a patient and the resident/med student turns out to be right? Is there a rule that this must happen to every new character at least once? And speaking of rules, is there one that says every character appearing more than like 3 times must be paired off with the closest available person? His wife just died, for God's sake! But then again, I guess people around the ER are having a little trouble remembering the deceased lately.

And finally, am I the only one who got a little teary eyed when the credits went by sans Kellie Martin?

jac301 - you were not the only one who was sad that Kellie was missing from the opening credits. I was too.

-- Shauna (shauna_h16@yahoo.com), February 25, 2000.

Yes, I agree with you. I thought the epi was anti-climatic after the last 2 weeks. Should have been more about a memorial service or other acknowledgement. I thought they did a good job matching the actress who played Lucy's mom with Lucy's looks. I knew who she was the minute she came through the doors. It was sad when she opened the locker and saw Lucy's thi

I'm still disgusted by the whole mess. Was it really necessary to bring in Greene and Cordays parents not to mention "Deb" at the expense of not being able to give Lucy's character enough screen time. I know who I would rather watch.

-- Alice (abutton68@aol.com), February 25, 2000.

I agree with you Alice, I would much rather have Lucy back than Deb. Lucy had so much potential that the writers just copped out on. But Kellie Martin did want to move on, and I hold no grudge for that. I hope that it wasn't *only* because of the character (the loss of screen time, and/or its direction) that she wanted to leave. You'd think the writers/producers would be a bit more accomadating (sp) if that were the case.

And I agree with you Rachel, I wish there had been more mourning too - after all I'm grieving for Lucy too. (yes, I know she's only a character, but I liked her :) )

I was so happy when Lucy died. She was so annoying to me I was jumping up and down that she got killed.
