So I was thinking after watching "Be Patient" that perhaps we are being set up for a Deb and Carter romance. I don't really enjoy the character of Deb that much, although it is possible that she might grow on me, but if Carter does enter into another romance who should it be with, and how long after Lucy's death should it be? I would like see Carter realize how much he cared for Lucy (as his friend) and truly deal with her death and his stabbing before he jumps into another relationship, particulary as he has terrible luck anyway

I don't think there was a real romance going on between them, really. There might have been later, we know there was attraction. I think Carter's real emotional pain is going to be because of how he treated her as a doctor. He always seemed so short with her, and expected too much too soon. I'd like to see Carter just take a breather from romance all together right now. Let the rest of this story play out - and do it right. Show how he's feeling, and how he deals with everything. From how everyone will treat him on his return, to how he will treat the next intern coming in.

I agree with you, I don't like her character all that much either and also about Carter not getting involved right now. If I had a choice in the matter, it would be Abby.I don't know much about her character, but she seems like she would be more his type. I think Abby should visit him and help him in his recovery.

I hope they'll be foils for each other much as Mark and Kerry are. There's that same ambitious competition yet, just as Mark and Kerry are, Carter and Deb (Jing-Mae?) have very different personality types. Plus we have no evidence that Carter believes that non-blondes are attractive.

I agree with Nancy, Carter has yet to be attracted to a brunette. In fact sometimes it seems he's require to flirt with, hook up with, date, or have a crush on EVERY blonde who crosses his path. Which I think is amusing.

He also has a tendency to go for "older" women. Ok, he hits on women of all ages, but aside from Harper, most of his major conquests have been older, more mature women... I am surprised he didn't make a play for Dr. Corday.

I like Carter and Deb's current relationship; they seem to be friends and mutually respectful colleagues. The "competition" now seems to be between Deb & Dr. Dave. I think a romance between Carter and Deb would be WAY too predictable and soap-operaish.

The think the reason why there are so many pairings-up of co-workers on this show is the rather weird and unrealistic fact that none of them-- count them, none-- are married. Think about it, in how many real-life settings are all the staff single? Is your ER/office/school/whatever? Not mine. And of course, it's easier and cheaper for the writers to pair up the cast they've already got to work with than to add outsiders, who usually appear for about 5 epis and then are gone.
