how to tell if your sow is going to give birth soon?

Hope ssomeone can help me .My sow and boar ran together all winter so I have no clue when she is do . What are some of the signs to look for ? She has no milk , but is starting to hang low ,and is a little pink in the rear .

Hi Patty, your sow will show the same signs that most critters have, i.e. full teats, protruding swollen vulva, restlessness, etc. If this is your first farrowing experience let me know and I'd be happy to give info on a proper "birthing room", without one you will most likely loose the litter especially if this is the sows first time too.

Yes this is her first time and mine Hellppp!I have a lot of birthing experience just not with pigs.

in january i heard some high pitched squealing coming from the pen where i keep my pot bellied pigs. when i checked my sow had 6 pigs around her. i have lost 2 but just wasn't ready for a litter of pigs so the sow and boar were together in the 4x4 pig house and both pigs i lost were crushed. i feel bad because just the week before she delivered i was telling her she was sure getting fat. i now have the sow and boar sepperated and plan to have her rebred for a delivery in october. this time the sow and boar will not be together so hope to have a better survival rate. gail
