Do I really need an adapter?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I want to post images to a web site, send them via e-mail, and put them on disc, to promote the paintings of an artist. The artist has prints, negatives, and slides. Would there be an advantage to using an adapter, or should it be ok to use prints? I am not interested at this time in printing any of these images. I have read many reviews about low-end adapters not producing good results so I am thinking of getting something like the Epson 636 or 1200 and just scanning the prints. I'm not sure an adapter is the best way to go for the purposes stated above. I am going to buy a scanner anyway for other reasons. I'm just not sure about why I should have an adapter. Just exactly what is the end purpose that adapters and slide scanners are used for? Is it mainly for printing? Any info on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks Dwayne

Low budget, a limited number of images, get the slides or negatives scanned and put on to a Photo CD. Unless you can scan the original artwork this will give you the best results. Go from as close to the original as possible. Otherwise you could very well be promoting what to the viewer could be second rate work when the quality of the scan is to blame.
