Northwest Airlines flight makes emergency landing

By Associated Press, 3/6/2000 08:44

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) A Northwest Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Bradley International Airport this morning just minutes after takeoff when the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.

The DC-9 carrying 39 people left Bradley at 6:18 a.m. en route to Minneapolis when the smoke was reported, said Rollin Tebbetts, manager of airport operations.

The plane landed safely. Tebbetts said there was no fire in the cockpit and the Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the cause of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

The passengers were being booked on other flights

Smoke filled cockpits seem to be the No.1 reason for emergency landings since the roll-over.

I've noted: 1. smoke filled cockpits 2. horizontal stabilizer 3. hydraulic problems 4. engine failure
