What is a #%*&pit?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : FRL friends : One Thread

I didn't want to go running to the spinoff forum with this or anything, but try and put a dirty word into a post at the New Time Bomb. Even if it's embedded in a real word, like cockpit. It automatically puts in ^#%* for the offensive word. Now I can understand certain words might be very offensive, and need to be moderated, but you can't even say cockpit fer crying outloud! Not a complaint, just a rant.

I rarely have occasion to say cockpit, but thanks for shedding light why so many substitutions are showing up there. Maybe we could compile a list of words that shouldn't be banned but are anyway?

I don't think they have control over specific words. It's a function of the software on the EZBOARD. I know when I set up MY EZBOARD forum over the weekend there was an option that said "Filter profanity." I checked it. It made sense at the time, but you've given an example indicating that the software scans the entire post filtering out any words listed in the "no no word file." I've not seen any place where one could delete words from the "no no word file", but I'll look again if you'd like.

I was trying to think of all the words I know that have dirty words in them, and I really can't think of any others. But it was fun trying.

kritter,

You are so behind the times girl! Due to us women, and some not like to sit in a cockpit, the new term is flight deck. It's been this way for years, although it may not be out into the commercial airlines yet. Catch the times! LOL

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it being called a cockpit, but hey... I'm old fashioned.

Kidding ya... (well, it is actually called flight deck now days) Donna
