200mm f2.8 or 3.5/4 w/2x teleconverter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Konica 35mm SLRs : One Thread

Has anyone had any experience in using any of the 200mms w/a 2xteleconverter? I currently have a Vivitar 2x-7 and am considering buying a 200mm to use with it. Any suggestions as to what 200 would be the best match with my converter and any other info would be appreciated. Thanks Dave

Re: 200mm w/2x Teleconverter

Dave, I don't know about the 2.8, but the others work fine with a couple of caveats. Don't expect the same low-flare performance, for starters. This is not an uncommon phenomenon with 200's in general, in my experience. The best combo was with the f/4 the worst was with a Vivitar f/3.5. Watch for the meter under-reading the scene. I had this problem with my T3 for some odd reason, but not with any of the other Konicas I own. Contrast will suffer some, too, but, if shooting b&w, can be surmounted. One last point: do not, DO NOT use a teleconverter with the 200mm Hexar. Any converter used with this lens will come off seeming to be garbage, why I don't know. Perhaps the formulation? Maybe it isn't baffled as well as the Hexanons? Whatever the reason, I can't recommend the use of this lens with a teleconverter.
