Installing SQL Licenses on NFR NT

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SQL Server Database Administration : One Thread

I will be installing the SQL Internet Connector but I have an NFR copy of NT. Will this work and how? Also; are the number of SQL connections limited by the license or is this the honor system?

Walker,

Internet Connector isn't software, just a piece of paper licensing you purchase to use SQL Server in this manner. Just increase the number of SQL Server connections via sp_configure and licenses via control panel/licenses yourself.

The SQL Server Online Books article, "SQL Server Editions" explains the licensing this way: "The performance of the Small Business Server Edition is limited to the throughput typical of 50 concurrent users, although individual SBS installations may be licensed for fewer than 50 users. The performance of the Standard and Enterprise editions are limited only by the hardware and operating systems on which they run."

Hope this helps,

Eric
