Pyro negatives with Azo Paper

Have you used this combination? If so, what were your experiences? Did you use amidol as the paper developer? What film did you use?

I have printed pyro negatives on Azo paper. They printed well. I used Ansco 130 for the developer. The film was Tri-X 8x10. What I was actually trying to do was obtain a split tone effect, but I was unsuccessful. Overall, I prefer the results I get with Ilford Multigrade--it is simply excellent paper, and the pyro stain causes the high values (which have the most stain on the negative) to print with less contrast and therefore more detail. Another problem with Azo is that it is graded, so I really needed to buy two or three boxes of paper to handle all my negatives--Ilford Multigrade is much more convenient. The Azo tones beautifully though.

I have/do use Azo grade 2 and Pecham Amidol (it keeps for two weeks), as far as I am concerned there is no better combination, the problem is that Azo is not for enlarging unless you like really long exposure times (12 min.) but Amidol give a depth to a print that I have not seen with other developers, the easy way around having several boxes of paper is to tailor you neg exposure for the grade you are using. Pat: Would you send me the formula for Pecham Amidol?

Please post the formula for Pecham Amidol in this thread. Thanks....
