Carter and his Girlfriends

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Hi, I was watching the TNT shows and everytime i see Carter with a new girl it doens't seem like he is ever very close with the girl. It seems he just has girlfriends for the fun of it because he never seems very involved with the girl and always seems bored with her. And it seems like with Lucy he was always interested in her and never got bored of being around her. I thought they had some serious chemistry going on there. :-) I know this is probably something that no one else thinks but i just felt like sharing it.:-) Feel free to put your imput. Thanks!

Screw Lucy. Carter has problems connecting with women because he keeps going for blondes. I think he has a WASP fetish, probably a misguided attempt to please Gamma. Anyway, I think he just needs the right brunette to come along (i.e. ME) and melt his patrician heart. No offense, Blondie. :)

I dunno ... a redhead could be a good pair for Carter, too ;-) Like me.

I don't know about the color of the hair (Abbi the ped. surgeon wasn't blonde was she?), but the character of Carter definitely has a hard time connecting with women. He has never been in a close relationship with anyone. They need to give him someone that he becomes friends with first and then realizes there is something there (Oh my... I just thought of Deb went I wrote that). I actually kind of liked Roxanne -- someone that was outside of the ER.

Carly is right on. A brunette is most definately what Carter needs. While surely an appropriate candidate could be found among his legions of brunette fans (myself included), there is already an interesting possibility on the cast...Abby Lockhart. I know he was already with an Abby and that would be weird (God forbid a character should look back on something, though) but I like her spirit and I liked them together in their brief scene on the roof before Carter got carved. I think her attitude from Labor & Delivery (do all you can, go for the happy ending w/patients) would match Carter's optimism with patients. She's our best current hope, I think.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, Carter(Noah Wyle)'s real-life significant other is a brunette. :-)

The only brunette I remember seeing Carter with was that girl from the first season who asked him to examine her rash and then waited for him in his car...she gave him some kind of STD didn't she? Maybe that's what turned him off brunettes.

Hey, Maggie Doyle was a brunette and Carter hit on her constantly. But since there was no chance of anything happening with them romantically, he did get to be friends with her. Also, I think he had something of a friendship with Anna. He was hung up on her, but she never let things go too far. I think he generally has such an easy time getting girlfriends that he doesn't have to bother with the friends part, but he can do it if forced.

I guess these days Carter has seemed slightly frightened away from relationships, but that may not be him. Anna and him had a good relationship, but she left; Roxanne I really liked in the beginning, but then she got annoying. Lucy and Carter went together well-- whether romantically or friendly, I really can't decide, but they were a good pair. Despite that I didn't like her at all, he seemed to have it together with Abby Keaton. I really do hope Carter finds someone nice and interesting for us to watch. Someone who will help him out with his recent problems.

I don't think Carter will be dating for awhile, or at least he shouldn't be, unless it's in the self-destructive way Doug did (Seasons 1 & 2) or Mark (after Susan left and his beating). Also, did anybody else notice that Carter seems to crush on women who eventually leave town?

Hey! I totally agree! I especially HATED Elaine! Please don't make Deb and Carter a THING...Abby Lockhart and Carter -- I want them together. She's really smart and nice and I like Maura Tierney. I think that'd be great. I think Abby should forget becoming a doctor and become a nurse to replace Carol (juicy news about her, by the way, i'll post my own question). Anyway, IMHO (IN MY HUMBLE OPINION)

I agree. Lucy and Carter were one of the best couples on ER in a long while. I loved the beginning of their friendship/relationship when they used to bicker all the time and the episode in which they went looking for the little girls father was one of my favourites. The scene at the end when Carter comforts Lucy is just so moving and touching. From that scene alone I was convinced they were meant to be together. Despite what happened in "The Storm part 2" I hoped that the writers would keep developing their relationship and allow the characters to discover their feelings naturally. But that will never happen now- what a shame.
