An official from North Korea's power supply industry stated in an article in a North Korean newspaper published on March 9 that hydroelectric power plants cannot be run due to a water shortage caused by a lack of rain. In addition low supplies of coal is causing other power plants to operate below full capacity. Due to this, electricity is not being sufficiently supplied to major industries, and also residential areas are suffering from electrical shortages also.
