Nova Scotia: Map light fire hazard noted in investigation into cause of 1998 Swissair crash

National Post

HALIFAX - Canadian investigators looking into the deadly crash of Swissair 111 in September, 1998, say a pilot's map light, built into the cockpit ceiling, could be a fire hazard in that type of airplane. Boeing responded by urging airlines flying the MD-11 to make frequent checks until the light can be replaced. Canadian officials, however, say they are still far from determining the cause of the crash, which killed 229 people off Nova Scotia.
