Siemens installs airport management software

By A Staff Reporter

Dubai - A Siemens-Conrac consortium has installed flight information software and plasma screens at Dubai International Airport. The value of the contract is Dh16 million. The new systems will undergo extensive testing beginning April 15.

Siemens' universal flight information system (UFIS) handles all airport management data and transfers it to the plasma screens, monitors and other display boards in the passenger area. The data also go to the computers of airlines and ground handling companies, and the business administration department of Dubai Civil Aviation.

Conrac provided the plasma screens, which come with integrated personal computers. Around 500 of them will be installed in the airport.

With the latest award, the value of the four contracts won by Siemens in the last three years from DCA exceeds Dh100 million. The German company was also involved in providing the airfield lighting systems.

It also won tenders from the Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah airports for the lighting systems. "We are definitely interested in bidding for the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain expansions, as well as in Oman when that one comes through," said Binu Sharma, director for marketing and sales in charge of the Gulf at Siemens.
