A small private airplane with four people inside crash-landed in the hills south of Corona on Saturday afternoon after experiencing mechanical problems.

Don Brown was at the controls of a 1956 single-engine Cessna 172 flying three passengers from his home in Phoenix to Orange County when thick fog forced him to land in a grassy field south of Corona, a Riverside County sheriff's report said.

The aircraft experienced mechanical problems on takeoff from the field and crashed-landed in the nearby hills, the report said. The plane sustained damage to its front landing gear, wings and engine. No one was injured.

Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators released the aircraft to Brown and sheriff's officials took the passengers to Corona to arrange to have the aircraft removed, the report added.
