INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- A Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch was evacuated today after employees complained of headaches, nausea, burning throats and other symptoms, the agency said.

About 12 of the 17 employees on duty today at the branch on South East Street were taken to two area hospitals, but their condition was not immediately known, said BMV spokeswoman Natalie Himebaugh.

Community Hospital South treated three people, spokeswoman Debbie Davis said.

Himebaugh said to the agency's knowledge, no customers went to hospitals unless on their own accord.

The branch, located in a building with other businesses, was closed Monday after a small electrical fire. The property manager later talked with the fire department and was told it was safe to reoccupy the office, Himebaugh said.

However, a film developed in the air this morning and employees complained of being sick, she said. The fire department was called and the building was evacuated. http://www.starnews.com/data/wire/xml/0328ap_k2rc9c9109.html
