I work in a commercial b&w photo hobby lab. I am looking for ideas to attract more people to b&w photography. Examples we are thinking of...include: photo contests, classes, trips...etc. I would love any suggestions you may have. Thanks

Try some classes on Handcoloring. I have taught some classes on this at adult ed (nights) and there never seems to enough classes around.
