MOSCOW, Apr 6, 2000 -- (Reuters) Russia's Defense Ministry said on Thursday a MiG-31 fighter-interceptor plane had crashed at an airbase in the northern Archangel region, killing one pilot.
A ministry spokesman told Reuters the accident happened at 10:32 p.m. (1832 GMT) on Wednesday at a base near the town of Kotlas. He said a second pilot survived the crash.
The head of the air force press service, Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky, told Ekho Moskvy radio the plane had turned over and caught fire while coming in to land at the airbase.
