One Pilot is Killed After Ejecting in the Midair Collision

Two F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft crashed around the Artova/Tokat district near Sivas after colliding in midair on Tuesday evening, reported the Anatolia news agency yesterday.

The two fighter aircraft, belonging to the Merzifon 5th Main Jet Fighter Base 151st Wing Command, were reported to have been on a training mission when they collided and crashed at 8:58 on Tuesday evening. Both pilots managed to eject but one of them, Capt. (Flt Lt.) Murat Ozaydin was found dead some 500 meters from the crash site. The surviving pilot, Lt. (Pilot Off.) Gungor Ozer was flown to Gulhane Military Medical Academy Hospital in Ankara.

According to a General Staff press release, investigations are under way to determine the cause of the crash. Capt. Ozaydin's funeral was held yesterday in Izmir, and he was buried at Kadifekale Military Cemetery.
