CHANGCHUN (April 7) XINHUA - A gas explosion at a private coal mine in Liaoyuan City, northeast China's Jilin Province, killed seven people on Wednesday while two narrowly escaped.

All bodies have been recovered. The explosion occurred in the early hours on April 5, and is the third gas explosion in the province in recent months. The dense gas inside the mine was completely cleared Thursday evening.

Hong Hu, governor of the province, and officials rushed to the scene to save the trapped workers. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
